What it is…
Since 1978, Casa de Amparo has
provided safe emergency shelter and state-of-the-art treatment and
intervention services for abused and neglected children throughout San Diego
County. Casa programs fill a unique niche in the array of services provided
by both private and public agencies. In all areas, Casa de Amparo is
committed to exceed the basic needs of each child and to mitigate the impact
of abuse and neglect whenever possible.
"Amparo" is a Spanish word that is difficult to translate. It literally
means to offer protection, aid, comfort and rest. As a "House of Refuge",
Casa de Amparo provides a safe shelter and help when a child and their
family need it the most.
Casa de Amparo consists of 4 separate child abuse prevention/remediation
programs: a 24-hour children's shelter (residential), a daily preschool
child development center, the supervised family visitation services, and
counseling program. The emphasis of Casa de Amparo’s programs has always
been to protect and help heal the child. This has been an integral part of
Casa's mission since inception. Working with family members who demonstrate
a commitment to being effective parents is part of this focus.
Volunteer
opportunities…
GFWC-CWONC
organizes an annual Christmas party for the kids at the Mission San Luis Rey
location. We decorate a tree, organize crafts, cookie decorations, Christmas
caroling and invite “Santa” to visit with the children. We also gather
“stocking stuffers” for each child and give each child a stuffed bear.
