Diana's Angels Project
Project Chair:  Vivian Doering

In September 1997, a young woman named Diana miscarried triplets five months into her pregnancy. As she and her husband sadly prepared for their babies' funeral, they discovered that tehre was no place to purchase burial clothing small enough to properly fit infants. This bereaved mother found herself in the Toys-R-Us store shopping for clothing in which to bury her children.

Did you know that many parents whose premature babies die need to shop toy stores for burial clothing? This is often a traumatic experience for them and the clothing usually does not fit properly.

In response to this need, Lutheran Women's groups have joined with the members of St John's Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa who organized the "Diana's Angel Project". The purpose of the project is to sew and package burial garments in four sizes and styles, which will assure a nice fit for tiny infants. There are two designed for girls and two designed for boys. Each baby's set includes kimono, blanket, burial outfit (includes covering for the feet), and a bonnet.

A card is also placed in each package with Psalm 121 printed on it. Diana's Angels believes that even the tiniest person should be cared for with love, respect and dignity. Their purpose is to assist in obtaining suitable burial clothing for dressing these babies.

All of the items are a free gift from Diana's Angels and are donated to area hospitals where they are given to those facing these tragic losses. This project is totally non-profit and depends on donations to purchase supplies.
