The
Painted Turtle Camp, originally established by Paul Newman, is a year-round,
medical specialty camp for children with chronic and life-threatening
illnesses. The first campers arrived on June 22, 2004.
The camp’s mission is to enrich the lives of children by creating camping experiences that are
memorable, fun, empowering, physically safe, and medically sound.
Volunteer opportunities…
We need individuals to
make colorful turtles that are given to each camper or lap blankets.
If you can sew, knit or crochet or find this of interest, contact Donna
Jenkins or click
here for
instructions. Club
members vote annually to support the camp with donations that may include
hand crafted items, store bought supplies or a monetary donation.

Since 1978, Casa de Amparo has provided safe emergency shelter and
state-of-the-art treatment and intervention services for abused and
neglected children throughout San Diego County. Casa de Amparo is committed
to exceed the basic needs of each child and to mitigate the impact of abuse
and neglect whenever possible. "Amparo"
is a Spanish word that is difficult to translate. It literally means to
offer protection, aid, comfort and rest. As a "House of Refuge", Casa de
Amparo provides a safe shelter and help when a child and their family need
it the most. The emphasis of Casa de Amparo’s programs has always been to
protect and help heal the child. This has been an integral part of Casa's
mission since inception. Working with family members who demonstrate a
commitment to being effective parents is part of this focus.
Volunteer opportunities…
GFWC-CWONC organizes an annual Christmas party for the kids at the Mission
San Luis Rey location. We may decorate a tree, organize crafts, decorate
cookies, sing and invite “Santa” to visit with the children. We also
collect gifts for each child. Other projects include a cooking class for
the teen residents and assisting at the annual charity events for the
program.

Livermore, CA 94550
Camp Programs:
At
Camp Sunburst, an acclaimed residential summer camp, HIV/AIDS children and
their families enjoy the companionship of others without the social stigma
and isolation associated with the AIDS epidemic. While the camp population
primarily served is children with HIV/AIDS, they recognize the tremendous
impact of childhood illness on siblings and parents (many of whom are also
ill); thus, program emphasis is placed on the family as a unit. Children
participate in a variety of camp activities including swimming, hiking,
fishing, arts and crafts, sports and campfires. Camp provides a family
strengthening environment, education, recreation, and emotional support.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Members may donate new or almost new - bedding, towels, and stuffed animals,
or crochet/knit small afghans (approx. 36” x 36”). Donate items per the
Sunburst “Wish list”.
